PBBM orders crackdown on unsafe transport practices

President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. ordered a crackdown on unsafe and exploitative practices in the transport sector following recent accidents that claimed lives.

He lamented the deaths of ten Filipinos in a collision in Tarlac and two more, including a child, in an accident at the airport.

Marcos Jr. instructed the Department of Transportation (DOTr) to hold responsible parties accountable and implement reforms to prevent further loss of life.

A nationwide audit of bus operators will be conducted, with sanctions for those failing to meet safety and maintenance standards.

The Department of Labor and Employment has been directed to abolish unsafe practices such as driver fatigue, long hours, and pressure to meet quotas.

Additionally, the driver licensing system will be reviewed to ensure only fit, capable, and responsible individuals are allowed on the roads.
