Marcos, Brunei Sultan discuss closer cooperation amid global challenges

President Ferdinand "Bongbong" Marcos Jr. met with Sultan Hassanal Bolkiah of Brunei to discuss the necessity for closer cooperation among nations due to evolving regional and global challenges.

Marcos highlighted that fundamental changes in the regional and world landscape necessitate enhanced cooperation to address issues like climate change, environmental degradation, and geopolitical tensions.

He also acknowledged Brunei's past assistance to the Philippines, including donations of COVID-19 test kits and vaccines, aid to victims of Super Typhoon Yolanda and Typhoon Odette, and support during the 1970s oil crises.

Sultan Bolkiah expressed his gratitude to President Marcos for accepting his invitation for a state visit, noting that such visits are customary between the two nations.

During the meeting, the two leaders witnessed the signing of agreements on tourism, agriculture, and maritime cooperation.
