Marcos Jr. says VP Sara impeachment trial may spill over to 20th Congress

President Ferdinand "Bongbong" Marcos Jr. believes the impeachment trial of Vice President Sara Duterte will carry over to the 20th Congress, as it is unlikely to conclude before the current session ends.

Marcos stated that the Senate, which has had the impeachment complaint for several months, will decide on the next steps.

He noted that Senate President Chiz Escudero is working towards a peaceful transition of the impeachment proceedings to the next Congress.

Escudero took his oath as presiding officer for the impeachment trial on Monday, with other senators also taking their oath as senator-judges on Tuesday.

Previously, Marcos respected the opinions of various groups regarding the impeachment trial, with protesters and students calling for an immediate trial.

Cardinal Pablo Virgilio David had also emphasized the Senate's duty to act on the impeachment trial, stating that a delay would betray the Constitution and public trust.
