Marcos to acting DTI chief Roque: Raise MSMEs' competitiveness, income
President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. has appointed Ma. Cristina Aldeguer-Roque as the new acting Secretary of the Department of Trade and Industry (DTI).
Marcos has tasked Roque to elevate the condition and competitiveness of the country's micro, small, and medium enterprises (MSME) sector.
Roque stated that the "marching order is really to be able to uplift the income and to be able to uplift the MSMEs, and also to make use of digitalization as a way to be able to live and to level up the MSMEs."
She highlighted that a 10% increase in MSME income would significantly contribute to the Philippine economy.
Roque, formerly the DTI's undersecretary for MSME development, emphasized the importance of MSMEs, which constitute 99.5% of businesses and 60% of the labor force.
The DTI plans to implement a five-point strategy for MSMEs, focusing on digitalization, artificial intelligence (AI), diversification, and funding.
