PBBM launches PH chairmanship of ASEAN 2026 with 'Navigating Our Future, Together' theme

President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. launched the Philippines' chairmanship of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) for 2026 on November 14, introducing the theme 'Navigating Our Future, Together'.

Despite facing a significant corruption scandal within his administration, Marcos emphasized ASEAN's unity as key to charting a peaceful, prosperous, and people-centered future.

The Philippines aims to focus on three key areas during its chairmanship: peace and security, prosperity corridors, and people empowerment, with a particular emphasis on leveraging advanced technologies like AI.

Marcos highlighted the potential of AI in enhancing regional security, specifically for developing warning systems and improving maritime domain awareness.

He reiterated the Philippines' commitment to strengthening dialogue and promoting peace and stability through adherence to international law and enhanced cooperation on various security issues.
