President Ferdinand "Bongbong" Marcos Jr. led the ceremonial switch-on of three new diesel power plants in Siquijor province, totaling 17.8 megawatts, to ensure a stable energy supply.
These new facilities, located in Larena, Lazi, and Siquijor town, were developed after the permit of the Siquijor Island Power Corporation (SIPCOR) was revoked.
President Marcos stated that the new plants will cut brownouts and provide a long-term solution to the province's power crisis.
With a dependable capacity of 12.25 MW and a 1.7 MW reserve, the power plants are designed to meet Siquijor's peak demand of 9 MW.
The project is a result of collaboration between the National Electrification Administration (NEA), PROSIELCO, and the Energy Regulatory Commission (ERC) under the Department of Energy.
The Energy Regulatory Commission had previously revoked SIPCOR's operating authority due to various violations, which contributed to ongoing power supply issues in the province.
SIPCOR is a subsidiary of Prime Asset Ventures, a company under the Villar Group.
