PBA to test four-point shot in Season 49

The Philippine Basketball Association (PBA) will introduce a four-point shot in Season 49, with the 27-foot arc to be tested on a trial basis.

The new rule, previously used in PBA All-Star games, aims to add excitement and unpredictability to the league.

PBA vice chairman Alfrancis Chua stated the decision to adopt the four-point shot was unanimous among the league governors, and its use is optional for teams.

While some coaches express hesitation about the rule change, acknowledging they will need to adapt, players show a mix of curiosity and excitement.

Barangay Ginebra San Miguel head coach Tim Cone noted he is "not a fan" but expects teams to learn how to utilize the new weapon as the season progresses, though likely not in high volume.

Rain or Shine mentor Yeng Guiao also indicated his team will not focus on using the four-point shot extensively.
