Pasuit, Chavez win openers at World Boxing Championships

Filipino boxers Riza Pasuit and Ronald Chavez Jr. secured victories in their opening matches at the World Boxing Championships in Liverpool, England.

Riza Pasuit advanced to the round-of-16 in the women's 60kg division after defeating Ragad Alnaimi of Saudi Arabia by second-round RSC.

Pasuit will next face Brazil's Rebeca Santos in the round-of-16 on Tuesday.

In the men's 70kg class, Ronald Chavez Jr. earned a 3-2 win on points against Matthew McCole of Ireland to reach the round-of-16.

Chavez will next face France's Makan Traore in his upcoming bout.

Unfortunately, Junmilardo Ogayre was eliminated from the men's 60kg round-of-32 after a 5-0 loss to Biibars Zhexen of Kazakhstan.

Carlo Paalam is scheduled to compete against Junior Alcantara of the Dominican Republic in the men's 55kg division.
