Pasay City hospital condemns candidate's 'bumbay' remark

Pasay City General Hospital has condemned discrimination after mayoral candidate Editha "Wowee" Manguerra referred to Indian nationals working at the hospital as "bumbays" and associated them with the smell of onions.

Manguerra apologized for her remarks, stating that she is only human and makes mistakes, and that she is willing to accept her errors.

She explained that the remark stemmed from complaints about Indian hospital staff who allegedly could not understand or explain medical treatments to Filipino patients.

The hospital released a statement reaffirming its commitment to equality and condemning all forms of prejudice, sexism, and racism, emphasizing that it holds all its staff, both local and foreign, in high regard.

The candidate, Pasay City Councilor Manguerra, was seen in a video promising to remove Indian nationals from the hospital, claiming the onion smell would cease.

Manguerra also announced her intention to file a discrimination case against another candidate who allegedly accused her of being a lesbian and having an affair with her elder sister.
