Pangasinan hospitals on alert for novel coronavirus

Pangasinan's Provincial Health Office (PHO) has instructed all 14 government hospitals in the province to be vigilant for patients exhibiting flu-like symptoms due to the novel coronavirus outbreak.

Hospitals are reminded to implement protocols similar to those used during previous SARS and MERS outbreaks, including monitoring patients from the emergency room and tracing their travel history.

Specific attention is being given to Dasol Community Hospital, Bolinao Community Hospital, and Western Pangasinan District Hospital, which serve coastal areas.

The PHO is particularly concerned about potential transmission from Chinese fishermen in the West Philippine Sea to local fishermen and has advised health officials to orient fishermen on prevention measures.

Dr. Anna Ma. Teresa de Guzman, PHO chief, emphasized that frequent and proper hand washing remains a crucial method for preventing virus transmission.
