Malacañang warns the public against fake news peddlers attempting to sabotage the administration's P20-per-kilo rice initiative.
Presidential Communications Office Undersecretary Atty. Claire Castro clarified that the P20-per-kilo rice is the regular variety, currently sold at P33 per kilo, and not low-quality rice as suggested by Vice President Sara Duterte.
Castro cautioned that fake news peddlers might display poor quality rice and claim it is part of the government program, emphasizing that not a single grain is for sale yet.
National Food Authority (NFA) Administrator Larry Lacson assured the public that the rice to be distributed will undergo regular monthly testing to ensure it meets consumption standards.
Lacson stated that only rice with no more than 25-percent broken grains will be distributed, and any yellowing rice will be discarded.
The NFA currently has a buffer stock of 7.56 million bags, approximately 10 days of supply nationwide.
