Palace says Egco's NTF-ELCAC role no conflict of interest

Malacañang confirmed that Presidential Communications Operations Office (PCOO) Undersecretary Joel Sy Egco's appointment as a spokesperson for the National Task Force to End Local Communist Armed Conflict (NTF-ELCAC) does not present a conflict of interest.

Egco, who is also the Executive Director of the Presidential Task Force on Media Security (PTFoMS), will serve as spokesperson for Mass Media Engagements and Fact-Checker for the NTF-ELCAC.

He stated that this new role is a "personal advocacy" and a form of "redemption" for him, acknowledging past involvement with communist rebels.

Egco also assured that his PTFoMS duties, which include protecting media members from threats, would not conflict with his responsibilities in the NTF-ELCAC.

Concerns had been raised by some sectors regarding Egco's appointment due to the NTF-ELCAC's alleged red-tagging of journalists.
