Malacañang orders agencies to support Independence Day celebration

Malacañang has directed all government agencies, including government-owned and controlled corporations (GOCCs), to actively support and participate in the observance of the 127th Anniversary of the Proclamation of Philippine Independence.

The celebration is scheduled to take place from May 18 to June 12, 2025, with the main Independence Day on June 12.

Memorandum Circular No. 77, signed by Executive Secretary Lucas Bersamin by the authority of President Ferdinand Marcos Jr., mandates government participation and encourages cooperation from local government units and the private sector.

The commemoration aims to honor the freedom fought for by the nation's forefathers, their envisioned future, and the history to be remembered.

The National Historical Commission of the Philippines (NHCP) is the lead agency tasked with overseeing and coordinating the event's activities.

This directive aligns with Republic Act No. 10086, promoting nationalism and respect for national heroes through history.

Philippine Independence was first proclaimed by Gen. Emilio Aguinaldo on June 12, 1898.
