Palace: No nationwide lockdowns despite Delta variant threat

Malacañang announced that the government is not considering stricter nationwide lockdowns despite the threat of the Delta variant of COVID-19.

This decision comes after the OCTA Research Group recommended implementing preemptive lockdowns to curb the spread of the Delta variant.

Presidential Spokesperson Harry Roque stated that the Inter-Agency Task Force for the Management of Emerging Infectious Diseases (IATF-EID) is focusing on the country's 'total health' to balance pandemic response with recovery.

Roque emphasized that the government aims to balance these aspects rather than immediately resorting to hard lockdowns.

The recommendation for lockdowns by OCTA Research followed an average of almost 1,000 daily COVID-19 cases in Metro Manila.

As of the report, the Philippines has recorded 119 Delta variant cases, with 103 recoveries, 12 active cases, and four deaths.
