PAL, AirAsia to resume flights June 1 as travel curbs ease

Philippine Airlines (PAL) and AirAsia Philippines will resume commercial flight operations on June 1, following the government's decision to ease travel restrictions and place the National Capital Region (NCR) and other areas under general community quarantine (GCQ).

Department of Transportation (DOTr) Secretary Arthur Tugade confirmed that domestic air operations will be permitted between GCQ areas.

PAL spokesperson Cielo Villaluna stated the airline is coordinating with authorities to finalize routes and schedules for the resumption of operations.

AirAsia Philippines communications head David de Castro mentioned their plan for a gradual resumption of domestic operations starting June 1, while consulting aviation authorities and local government units for guidelines.

The government also plans to expand operations in international gateways such as Clark, Cebu, and Davao.

A 'new normal' is expected with new safety measures including mandatory face masks, body temperature checks, and physical distancing for passengers and crew.
