PAGASA declares start of rainy season

The Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical, and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) has declared the start of the rainy season on Monday, June 2, following observed continuous scattered to widespread rainfall over the past five days.

This declaration is based on data from 13 stations in the western parts of Luzon and the Visayas, requiring at least seven stations to meet specific rainfall criteria and prevailing westerly winds over the western Philippines.

The rainy season, typically beginning in the second half of May or the first half of June and lasting until November, officially commenced three days after PAGASA's announcement on May 30 regarding the southwest monsoon affecting parts of the country.

Periods of dry weather, known as monsoon breaks, may still occur during the rainy season.

PAGASA estimates that 11 to 19 tropical cyclones may form or enter the Philippine Area of Responsibility between June and November, with none having occurred so far in 2025.

Over the next 24 hours, moderate to heavy rainfall is expected in Bataan and Zambales, which could result in flooding and landslides.

A flood advisory has been issued for the tributaries of Morong and Balanga in Bataan, as well as Pamatawan, Sto. Tomas, Bucao, Bancal, and Lawis in Zambales.

The public is advised to remain vigilant and take necessary precautions against the effects of the rainy season and other potential weather-related events.
