PAF, US PACAF conduct joint air patrol over WPS

Three FA-50 light jet fighters of the Philippine Air Force (PAF) and a B-52H bomber aircraft of the United States Pacific Air Force (PACAF) held a combined air patrol over the West Philippine Sea on Monday, February 19.

The patrol took place over areas 90 nautical miles west of Candon, Ilocos Sur, and 50 nautical miles northwest of Lubang, Occidental Mindoro.

This activity is the air component of the third Maritime Cooperative Activity (MCA) between the Armed Forces of the Philippines and US Armed Forces, designed to enhance cooperation and interoperability.

Philippine Air Force spokesperson Col. Maria Consuelo Castillo stated that the joint air patrol is "not in any way directed toward any country" and is in accordance with the international rules-based order.

The PAF emphasized that this joint activity demonstrates its dedication to safeguarding Philippine territory, sovereign rights, and maintaining regional peace and security.

The activity also aimed to show PAF's presence within the Philippines' Exclusive Economic Zone, monitor Philippine assets, boost pilot skills, and improve cooperation between the two nations' air forces.

China's military stated that the Philippines was 'stirring up trouble' with its recent actions.
