Padilla wants PCO to boost WPS info campaign

Senator Robin Padilla has urged the Presidential Communications Office (PCO) to enhance its public information campaign on the West Philippine Sea (WPS) issue.

Padilla filed Senate Resolution 864, advocating for the PCO to clearly explain to the public the legal documents and treaties supporting the Philippines's actions in the WPS.

These include the UN Convention on the Law of the Sea, the 2016 Arbitral Ruling, the Philippines-US Mutual Defense Treaty, and the proposed Philippines-Japan Reciprocal Access Agreement.

He stressed the PCO's responsibility to provide accurate information on national security matters, especially amid rampant misinformation.

Padilla warned that propaganda and fake news could harm good governance and democracy.

He also noted that certain sensitive topics related to national defense and security should be excluded from public awareness campaigns.
