Paalam out of World Boxing Championships after round-of-32 loss

Filipino boxer Carlo Paalam's bid for a medal in the World Boxing Championships ended after a 4-1 loss to Junior Alcantara Reyes in the round-of-32.

Paalam, a Tokyo Olympics silver medalist, struggled in the early rounds but showed a strong comeback in the third round, which ultimately fell short.

The judges' scorecards were split, with Paalam winning only one judge's scorecard.

This loss contrasts sharply with Paalam's dominant performance in his first-round bout.

Other Filipino boxers, Mark Ashley Fajardo and Junmilardo Ogayre, were also eliminated from the competition.

Fajardo lost his match 5-0 to Ukrainian Evin Aliiev in the men's 65kg division.

Ogayre was defeated by Kazakhstan's Biibars Zhexen in the men's 60kg division.

Three Filipino boxers remain in the tournament: Riza Pasuit in the women's 60kg category and Jay Bryan Baricuatro in the men's 50kg category.

Another remaining boxer, Mark Ashley Fajardo, is set to compete against France's Makan Traore in the men's 70kg category.
