Paalam advances to Paris Olympics boxing quarterfinals

Filipino boxer Carlo Paalam advanced to the quarterfinals of the men's 57kg event at the 2024 Paris Olympics with a unanimous decision win over Ireland's Jude Gallagher.

Paalam utilized his quickness and agility, along with a strategic approach, to secure the victory against the taller Gallagher.

He impressed judges with his performance, dominating the second round and skillfully evading attacks in the third.

This win moves him closer to a guaranteed bronze medal and ends a string of disappointments for Team Philippines.

Paalam will face Charlie Senior of Australia in his next match on Saturday, August 3.

He is seeking to repeat as an Olympic medalist after bagging silver in the Tokyo Olympics.

Paalam is the third Filipino boxer to win their respective matches in Paris, following Aira Villegas and Nesthy Petecio.
