P6.8 million shabu found in abandoned box at Matnog port

Authorities discovered approximately P6.8 million worth of suspected shabu concealed within an abandoned box at the Matnog port in Sorsogon on Monday, December 23.

The Philippine Coast Guard, with the help of a K9 dog, detected the 1-kilo suspected illegal drugs during a routine inspection.

The Philippine National Police, Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency, and Philippine Ports Authority immediately launched an initial investigation to identify the owners of the suspected shabu.

This incident occurs amid the PNP's announcement of seizing over P20 billion worth of illegal drugs nationwide from January 1 to December 15, 2024, a 101 percent increase from 2023.

PNP chief Police General Francisco Marbil stated that the administration's focus on high-value individuals has resulted in confiscating over 8 metric tons of illegal drugs this year.
