P17.8B flood control projects inserted into Oriental Mindoro budget with questionable designs

Oriental Mindoro Governor Humerlito "Bonz" Dolor revealed that P17.8 billion in flood-control projects were inserted into the province's budget from 2022 to 2025.

These insertions significantly increased the province's flood-control budget from P12.7 billion in the National Expenditure Programs to P30.2 billion in the General Appropriations Acts.

A total of 135 flood-control projects, all P25 million and above, were inserted across the four-year period.

Governor Dolor attributed the failure of these projects to protect the province from floods to unconsulted and inappropriate designs, questioning why they resembled boulevards with wide roads.

He presented "substandard" and "overpriced" flood control projects of the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH).

Sunwest Inc. and St. Timothy Construction Corporation were identified as contractors responsible for the failed flood-control projects.
