Mindoro vice mayor denies hiding DPWH exec

Bansud, Oriental Mindoro Vice Mayor Alma Mirano appeared before the National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) to explain her connection with engineer Dennis Abagon, who was arrested at her Quezon City apartment.

Abagon, an Officer-in-Charge of the DPWH Quality Assurance and Hydrology Division, is linked to alleged anomalous and substandard flood control projects in Naujan.

Mirano reiterated that Abagon was her tenant, renting her unit since October 3, 2024, and denied claims of hiding or protecting him.

She stated she had only spoken to Abagon twice and directed the NBI to his unit upon learning they were looking for a DPWH official.

Mirano, who missed an initial summons due to illness, expressed relief after clarifying the matter and acknowledged the emotional and mental toll the criticisms have taken on her as a first-time vice mayor.

The NBI has yet to release details of Mirano's statement as the investigation into the alleged anomalies is ongoing.
