Oriental Mindoro towns face worst flooding since 1995

Several towns in Oriental Mindoro, including Roxas, experienced severe flooding on Monday morning due to heavy rains brought by the "amihan" and a low-pressure area.

Governor Humerlito Dolor confirmed that flooding affected multiple barangays in Naujan, Victoria, Mansalay, and Roxas.

According to Roxas disaster office head Larry Gabayno, the current flooding is the worst the town has seen since 1995, with floodwaters reaching knee-to chest-deep in almost all barangays.

The Madugo River overflowed, causing inundation in approximately 20 barangays, and some reports indicated water levels exceeding roof height in Barangay Bagumbayan.

As of 10 a.m., floodwaters in Roxas had begun to subside and all roads along the national highway were passable, but the national road in Barangay Pinagsabangan II remained impassable to light vehicles as of 11 a.m.

Other affected areas included roads in Barangay Adrialuna in Naujan, Barangay Mabini in Victoria, and Barangay Villa Celestial in Mansalay.

The Panggalaan River in Calapan City was also placed under a critical level.
