Ombudsman Jesus Crispin Remulla announced that the Office of the Ombudsman will review complaints regarding the alleged misuse of confidential funds by Vice President Sara Duterte's office and during her time as Secretary of the Department of Education (DepEd).
The complaints, endorsed by the House Committee on Good Government and Public Accountability, involve a total of P612.5 million in confidential funds from the Office of the Vice President (OVP) and DepEd between 2022 and 2024.
Remulla stated that the reports are already with the Ombudsman's office and will be studied, with current and former officials being questioned.
Respondents named in the complaints include Vice President Duterte and nine other officials from DepEd and the OVP, such as Chief of Staff Zuleika Lopez and Col. Raymund Lachica.
Previously, it was revealed during a House hearing that the OVP spent P125 million in confidential funds within an 11-day period in 2022.
