Ombudsman orders Pharmally cases withdrawn for reassessment

The Office of the Ombudsman has ordered the withdrawal of Pharmally-related cases that have yet to undergo arraignment from the Sandiganbayan for reassessment.

Ombudsman Jesus Crispin Remulla stated that the cases need to be thoroughly reviewed to ensure they are trial-ready once refiled.

Remulla cited a lack of continuity and segregation in how the cases were handled previously, with different functions not connected to each other.

The Pharmally scandal involved P4.4 billion in medical supplies procured in 2020 from Pharmally corporation.

The Ombudsman intends to seek help from former Senator Richard Gordon, who led the Senate Blue Ribbon Committee that investigated the scandal, in revisiting the anomalous procurement.
