Ombudsman: Corruption rampant in judiciary as in other branches

Ombudsman Jesus Crispin Remulla stated that corruption is just as severe in the judiciary as it is in the executive and legislative branches.

Remulla cited the acquittal of former Department of Agriculture Undersecretary Jocelyn "Joc-joc" Bolante of plunder charges related to the P723-million fertilizer fund scam by the Sandiganbayan.

He also pointed to the acquittal of individuals linked to the Priority Development Assistance Fund scam, including the late-chief presidential legal counsel Juan Ponce Enrile in October 2025.

The Ombudsman expressed dismay at the Sandiganbayan's ability to find reasons to acquit individuals, noting that "too many people are pulling off miracles at the Sandiganbayan."

Remulla urged the public to be vigilant and monitor the actions of judges and justices, emphasizing the intensity of corruption within the judicial system.
