Olongapo apartment falsely claims to be US Embassy

Residents of Olongapo City were alarmed by an apartment in Barangay Barretto displaying signage claiming it was a United States Embassy premises, complete with a US flag and a warning of prosecution under international law for unauthorized entry.

The US Embassy has confirmed that the residential apartment is not an official US government property and stated that the sign has since been removed.

Olongapo City Mayor Rolen Paulino Jr. had previously clarified that the local government had not received any official communication from the US Embassy regarding a presence in the city and assured residents of an investigation.

A woman renting the apartment claimed she and her husband put up the flag and sign to discourage trespassers, and also alleged her husband was a US diplomat.
