Oldest COVID-19 patient in Bicol dies

The oldest confirmed COVID-19 patient in the Bicol region, a 78-year-old male from Guinobatan, Albay (Bicol Patient 28), has died, bringing the total number of fatalities in the region to three.

He tested positive for COVID-19 on April 21, 2020, with his illness onset on April 11, and was admitted to the Bicol Regional Training and Teaching Hospital (BRTTH) on April 18.

This marks the second recorded death due to the virus in Albay province.

Mayor Ann Gemma Ongjoco of Guinobatan stated that contact tracing is ongoing, and the patient's child will be tested to determine the source of the virus, as the patient did not leave his home.

Ongjoco also mentioned that the patient had previously recovered, with oxygen support removed and the ability to walk, but later died of a heart attack, possibly due to the emotional stress from his children's visit and photos.

The Department of Health Center for Health Development in Bicol reported the patient's demise.
