NUPL urges gov't not to overlook questionable donations

The National Union of People's Lawyers (NUPL) urged the government not to overlook questionable donations amid the COVID-19 pandemic.

NUPL president Edre Olalia criticized Presidential Anti-Corruption Commission (PACC) Commissioner Manuelito Luna's call for an NBI probe into Vice President Leni Robredo's donation solicitations.

Olalia questioned why Robredo is being investigated when her actions are meant to help combat the pandemic.

He also pointed out other instances of questionable donations, such as placing names on relief packs and improperly donating items in a military camp.

Olalia believes that all legitimate contributions should be welcomed in the spirit of 'Bayanihan' to fight the crisis.

He suggested that such investigations should be consistent and not target political opponents for laudable actions.

PACC Commissioner Greco Belgica clarified that Luna's statement does not represent the PACC's official stance, and they are thankful for all forms of help during the crisis.
