NTF COVID-19 chief warns of more deaths if ECQ not followed

The chief implementer of the National Task Force (NTF) COVID-19, Secretary Carlito Galvez Jr., warned that neglecting COVID-19 prevention measures could result in more deaths.

Galvez urged local chief executives and agencies like the MMDA, PNP, and AFP to strictly enforce the enhanced community quarantine (ECQ) due to observed violations.

He highlighted the high daily death tolls in the United States and some European countries as a consequence of non-compliance with lockdowns and social distancing.

Galvez appealed to the public not to be complacent, emphasizing that their lives and their families' lives are at stake.

The Philippines has recorded 5,223 confirmed cases, 335 deaths, and 295 recoveries as of Tuesday.

Specific barangays in Manila, Quezon City, and San Juan were called out for failing to adhere to ECQ and social distancing guidelines.

Conversely, Baguio City, Valenzuela City, and the Davao and Caraga regions were commended for improving situations with higher recovery rates and fewer new cases.

The public is reminded to stay at home, practice proper hygiene, maintain social distancing, and wear face masks.
