NGCP raises transmission charges for January

The National Grid Corporation of the Philippines (NGCP) announced an increase in transmission charges for January, impacting power grid consumers.

Transmission wheeling rates have risen to P0.5422 per kilowatt-hour (kWh) from P0.5315/kWh.

Ancillary Service (AS) rates also saw a 12% increase, reaching P0.6640/kWh from P0.5928/kWh.

This rise in AS charges includes the first tranche of deferred payments from the AS Reserve Market in March 2024, as approved by the Energy Regulatory Commission.

NGCP head of revenue management Julius Ryan Datinggaling explained that the slight increase in wheeling rates is due to low electricity consumption in January, as fixed revenue is divided by consumption.

NGCP's overall transmission charges have increased to P1.3504/kWh from P1.2583/kWh.

The NGCP clarified that a portion of the overall transmission rate, about 54 centavos/kWh, is billed to consumers and mainly consists of AS charges remitted to power generators.
