Negros Occidental, Bacolod City report 5 pertussis cases in infants

Five babies in Negros Occidental and Bacolod City have tested positive for pertussis.

In Negros Occidental, two babies aged two months old have contracted the illness, while Bacolod City has recorded three cases involving infants aged one to three months old.

Of the three infants in Bacolod who tested positive, one remains hospitalized while two have been discharged.

Close contacts of confirmed cases are being traced for antibiotic prophylaxis.

The City Health Office is conducting mapping and catch-up immunization for unvaccinated or incompletely vaccinated children under two years old.

The CHO is collaborating with the Provincial Health Office and infectious disease consultants for joint guidelines and management of pertussis.

The governors of Negros Occidental and Bacolod City have issued a joint public advisory on pertussis awareness.
