NCSC, NCIP ink deal for indigenous elderly support

The National Commission of Senior Citizens (NCSC) and the National Commission on Indigenous Peoples (NCIP) have signed an agreement to enhance support and benefits for elderly indigenous people.

This partnership aims to strengthen the implementation of government services for Indigenous senior citizens, including healthcare, social services, discounts, and privileges.

Under Republic Act No. 11982, or the Expanded Centenarians Act, senior citizens are entitled to receive P10,000 upon reaching 80, 85, 90, and 95 years old, and P100,000 upon turning 100.

The agencies also plan to conduct joint activities during the Elderly Filipino Week Celebration, which coincides with Indigenous People's Month in October.

The NCSC stated that this collaboration empowers elderly IPs to actively participate in social, cultural, and economic developments and cooperate in the smooth implementation of RA No. 11982 for the IP Community.

NCSC official Mary Jean Loreche emphasized the importance of this partnership, calling elderly IPs a "repository of wisdom" who can guide the nation's youth.

Loreche added that livelihood programs under this initiative will offer opportunities for a dignified and holistic quality of life in their final years.

NCIP Chairperson Jennifer Sibug-Las stated that the partnership's goal is to ensure a sustainable and equitable future for indigenous senior citizens.
