Metro Manila crime drops 23% as PNP arrests thousands

Crime incidents in Metro Manila saw a significant decrease of 23.73 percent between late November 2024 and mid-January 2025 compared to the same period last year, according to the Philippine National Police (PNP).

The National Capital Region Police Office (NCRPO) reported 768 index crimes during the recent period, a notable drop from the 1,007 crimes recorded in the previous year.

During this period, law enforcement also seized approximately P153.29 million worth of illegal drugs.

Furthermore, 3,806 suspects were apprehended in 1,518 illegal gambling operations, with P928,000 in bet money confiscated.

The campaign against illegal firearms resulted in the arrest of 352 individuals and the confiscation of 364 weapons.

A total of 976 most wanted persons and 1,190 other wanted individuals were also arrested by the NCRPO.

Additionally, 349,465 individuals were apprehended for violating local ordinances across Metro Manila.

NCRPO chief PBGen. Anthony Aberin stated that these achievements will serve as motivation to continue their mandate of maintaining peace, emphasizing a 'back to basics' approach combined with law enforcement innovations and community cooperation.
