NCR daily COVID-19 cases down by half since April peak

The National Capital Region (NCR) has seen a decrease in its average daily COVID-19 cases by half from its April peak, though a slowdown in the decline was observed starting mid-May.

Department of Health-Epidemiology Bureau OIC-Director Althea de Guzman reported that the average new daily cases from May 15 to 19 was 5,130, down from a peak of 10,839 between April 9 to 15.

The goal is to bring new cases in the NCR to around 2,000 per day, similar to numbers before the March surge.

Provinces within the NCR Plus (Metro Manila, Bulacan, Cavite, Laguna, and Rizal) recorded an average of 865 new daily cases from May 19 to 25, a decrease from the peak of 2,297 cases from April 9 to 15.

The target for these "Plus areas" is to reduce cases to around 198 per day, comparable to January to February figures.

The NCR Plus is currently under general community quarantine with heightened restrictions.
