Comelec says no information related to elections obtained in Smartmatic data leak
The National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) Cybercrime Division (CCD) assured that the Commission on Elections' (Comelec) database is secure, despite a breach involving its technology provider, Smartmatic.
NBI CCD Chief Victor V. Lorenzo stated that the group behind the Smartmatic breach, known as XSOX, did not exfiltrate any files connected to the upcoming elections.
Lorenzo further clarified that XSOX did not access any sensitive information or files from Smartmatic's controlled environment, describing the accessed data as merely "garbage" and publicly available.
The NBI has initiated operations to apprehend members of the XSOX group responsible for the Smartmatic breach.
