Navy chief Bacordo quarantines after officer tests positive for COVID-19

Philippine Navy chief Vice Admiral Giovanni Bacordo is currently undergoing self-quarantine after an officer who attended the commissioning of the BRP Jose Rizal tested positive for COVID-19.

Bacordo has been in quarantine since Saturday and is awaiting the results of his swab test.

All personnel present at the BRP Jose Rizal commissioning event in Subic have been instructed to self-quarantine and undergo RT/PCR testing.

Guests and stakeholders who attended the event have also been advised to self-quarantine or get tested, or both.

The crew of the BRP Jose Rizal have already been tested for COVID-19 in preparation for their participation in the Rim of the Pacific (RIMPAC) Exercise.

Individuals who test positive will be isolated in a shore-based quarantine facility, while negative crew members will continue preparations for the exercises.

The Philippine Navy assures the public of its strict compliance with health and safety protocols to prevent disease transmission.
