Navotas City Mayor Toby Tiangco tests positive for COVID-19

Navotas City Mayor Tobias "Toby" Tiangco has tested positive for COVID-19.

He confirmed his positive result through an RT-PCR test administered on Sunday, January 2.

Mayor Tiangco, who has severe asthma, also stated he routinely takes self-antigen tests.

He apologized to individuals he recently encountered and urged them to monitor their health and consult a doctor if they experience any symptoms.

Despite his condition, Mayor Tiangco will continue to oversee the city's COVID-19 response and fulfill his mayoral duties remotely.

He reiterated his appeal for the public to exercise extreme caution, adhere to health protocols, and get vaccinated or boosted.

This comes as the DOH reported 4,600 additional COVID-19 cases on Sunday, the highest one-day tally since October 29, with the seven-day average also hitting its highest point since mid-November.
