Napolcom affirms Lt. Gen. Nartatez Jr. as acting PNP chief

The National Police Commission (Napolcom) formally affirmed Lt. Gen. Jose Melencio Nartatez Jr. as acting Philippine National Police (PNP) chief through Resolution 2025-0552.

This resolution ensures Nartatez is legally authorized to exercise all powers of the PNP chief, despite not yet holding the four-star rank of police general.

The need for this affirmation stems from the fact that the four-star rank is currently held by former PNP chief Gen. Nicolas Torre III, and only one officer can hold this rank at a time.

Napolcom Vice Chairperson and Executive Officer Commissioner Rafael Vicente Calinisan stated this move underscores Napolcom's constitutional mandate to administer and control the PNP.

He added that it also ensures the continuity of leadership at the helm of the national police force.

Additionally, Napolcom also confirmed the designation, assignment, and reassignment of 12 senior police officials to key PNP third-level positions through Resolution No. 2025-0558.
