NAIA resumes normal flight operations after Taal ashfall

The Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA) began partially resuming operations on Monday, January 13, after ashfall from Taal Volcano caused a suspension of flights since Sunday evening.

NAIA General Manager Ed Monreal announced on Tuesday, January 14, that flight operations have returned to normal and the airport is on the "road to recovery".

Starting Monday afternoon, flight operations normalized, with airlines prioritizing the mounting of regular flights and accommodating affected passengers.

As of Tuesday morning, from midnight to 7 a.m., NAIA accommodated 360 flights, which is half of its capacity.

A planned two-hour runway closure for maintenance on Wednesday, January 15, was canceled to allow airlines more time to mount flights.
