MWSS-RO approves new water rate hikes for Maynilad and Manila Water starting Jan 2026

The Metropolitan Waterworks and Sewerage System Regulatory Office (MWSS-RO) has approved new water rate hikes for Maynilad Water Services Inc. and Manila Water Co. Inc., effective January 1, 2026.

Manila Water customers consuming 10 cubic meters (cu. m.) or less per month will see a P29.86 increase in their bills, while Maynilad customers at the same consumption level will face a P5.06 hike.

For higher consumption, Manila Water customers using around 20 cu. m. will face an additional P66.25, and those using 30 cu. m. will see a P135.22 increase.

Maynilad customers consuming 20 cu. m. per month will pay P19.06 more, and those consuming 30 cu. m. will see their bills rise by P39.04.

MWSS-RO chief regulator Patrick Lester Ty stated that these rate adjustments are justified by the achieved capital expenditures of the two water concessionaires.

Ty explained that the increase in Manila Water's overall rate is due to a higher environmental charge, stemming from the company's increased sewer coverage.

The Alliance of Concerned Consumers in the Philippines (ACCOP) has expressed strong opposition to the approved rate hikes.
