MV Lite Ferry 5 with 506 passengers rescued after running aground in Bohol

A total of 506 passengers were safely rescued after MV Lite Ferry 5 ran aground in shallow waters off Jagna Port in Bohol on the night of April 20, 2025.

The ferry was en route to Cagayan de Oro when it drifted approximately 200 meters from the port due to low tide.

The Philippine Coast Guard (PCG) confirmed the safe transfer of all passengers, who were unharmed and returned to port by dawn.

The rescue operation was a coordinated effort involving the PCG, Philippine Navy, Bantay Dagat volunteers, Jagna's MDRRMO, and local fisherfolk.

Initial inspections revealed no apparent damage to the vessel's hull, but a full marine safety and environmental assessment is ongoing.

A tugboat was dispatched from Cebu to help extract the grounded vessel.
