Civil works for the final two stations of the Metro Rail Transit Line 7 (MRT-7), Tala Station and San Jose del Monte Station in Bulacan, are scheduled to commence in 2026 and are anticipated for completion by the fourth quarter of 2028.
The Department of Transportation (DoTr) and the San Jose del Monte city government finalized a new location for the station in March, positioning it near the border of San Jose del Monte and north Caloocan.
This new station site differs from the original plan, which was situated closer to the Muzon-Tungkong Mangga Road intersection.
Previously, the MRT-7 project, undertaken by San Miguel Corp. (SMC), faced delays attributed to right-of-way challenges in San Jose del Monte.
The MRT-7 line will feature 14 stations, connecting North Avenue in Quezon City to San Jose del Monte, Bulacan, and is projected to serve 300,000 daily passengers in its initial year, potentially increasing to 850,000 by its twelfth year.
The initial 12 stations of the MRT-7 are expected to be fully operational by 2027.
SMC is responsible for financing the construction of the 23-kilometer rail system and will manage its operations under a 25-year concession agreement.
Korea Railroad Corp. (Korail) has extended its advisory role to the MRT-7 project, focusing on operational systems, safety protocols, and maintenance programs, and has signed an O&M Services Agreement with SMC MRT-7 Corp.
