MRT-3 elevators fully operational, escalators near completion

The Department of Transportation (DOTr) announced that all 34 elevators at the Metro Rail Transit (MRT)-3 stations are now operational.

Additionally, 44 out of 46 escalators are functional, a significant improvement from the 19 operational escalators prior to the rehabilitation.

The MRT-3 aims to finish its rail replacement works by September 2020, ahead of the original February 2021 target.

Rail replacement activities continued even during the enhanced and modified community quarantine periods.

As of June 2, 2020, over 62% of the total linear meters of rails have been completed, with a portion done during the quarantine periods.

The DOTr has committed to restoring the MRT-3 to its original service standards.

The final two escalators await repairs once the necessary spare parts arrive in the country, delayed by global COVID-19 pandemic lockdowns.
