MPIW installs P400M water treatment plant to ease shortage

Metro Pacific Iloilo Water (MPIW) is installing a P400-million modular water treatment plant within eight months to address the city's water shortage.

The plant will have a capacity of 5 million liters per day and can process various water sources including brackish water, groundwater, and saltwater.

MPIW is also undertaking pipe replacement projects and seeking permits for this temporary measure.

A larger desalination plant is under construction but will only meet 60 percent of the city's demand.

The long-term solution is the Jalaur River Multipurpose Project II (JRMP II), expected to supply up to 80 MLD upon completion.

Iloilo City Mayor Jerry Treñas expressed dissatisfaction with the current water supply, emphasizing the need for immediate and long-term solutions to match the city's rapid growth and increasing demand.
