MPD cop under probe for drawing firearm during road rage incident

A Manila Police District (MPD) cop is under investigation for drawing his firearm on a motorcycle rider during a road altercation on election day, May 12.

The incident, which occurred amidst bumper-to-bumper traffic in Santa Ana, Manila, went viral online.

The rider allegedly continuously bumped his top box against the officer's motorcycle, demanding he move, and used profanities, while the officer stated he couldn't move due to a truck ahead.

The involved cop was assigned as an undercover security operative for election day.

PNP chief Gen. Rommel Francisco Marbil ordered an investigation by the Integrity Monitoring and Enforcement Group (IMEG) and stated that while police face risks, there is no excuse for behavior that undermines public trust.

The officer has been reassigned, and his firearm surrendered pending administrative proceedings, facing charges of grave misconduct and conduct unbecoming of a police officer.
