MPBL suspends Arwind Santos for P100k fine after punching Tonton Bringas

The Maharlika Pilipinas Basketball League (MPBL) has indefinitely suspended and fined P100,000 Arwind Santos for punching Tonton Bringas during a playoff game.

The incident occurred in Game 2 of their South Division quarterfinals series, where Santos struck Bringas in the face while contesting for position, resulting in Bringas suffering an injury to his left eye and a fractured right nose.

Santos was ejected from the game for a disqualifying foul, and the MPBL Commissioner Kenneth Duremdes stated that the punch was deemed deliberate and excessive after a review.

Bringas' camp indicated that he was set to undergo surgery due to the severity of his injuries, which included potential vision impairment.

Basilan is urging the MPBL to reexamine the sanctions, citing repeated unsportsmanlike actions from Bringas that went unaddressed by officials.
