Movie workers start COVID-19 vaccination drive

Movie industry workers, categorized under the A4 priority group, began receiving their COVID-19 vaccine inoculations on Friday, June 11.

The Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA), organizer of the Metro Metro Film Festival (MMFF), partnered with the Movie Workers Welfare Foundation (Mowelfund) for this vaccination program.

This initiative aims to provide significant support to the local movie industry, which has been heavily impacted by the pandemic.

About 100 entertainment industry workers were scheduled for their first vaccine dose on Friday, with celebrities like Joross Gamboa among those vaccinated.

The vaccines used for the program were Sinovac and AstraZeneca.

MMDA Chairman Benhur Abalos highlighted the potential of these artists to influence the public and encourage vaccination to achieve herd immunity sooner.

Abalos noted that around 300,000 people from the local film industry are directly affected by the pandemic, with the total number of affected individuals reaching 500,000 when including dependent businesses.
