Mohammad Shuaib Yacob elected new Bangsamoro Parliament Speaker

Mohammad Shuaib Yacob has been unanimously elected as the new Speaker of the 80-seat Bangsamoro Parliament, replacing the late Pangalian Balindong.

Yacob, who also serves as the Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (BARMM) Senior Minister, received the support of all 67 attending members during a session presided over by interim Chief Minister Abdulraof Macacua.

The late Speaker, Pangalian Balindong, a Maranao lawyer, passed away on October 2, 2025.

Yacob, a senior official of the Moro Islamic Liberation Front, vowed to unite the parliament and lead with honesty, neutrality, and respect for the rule of law.

He also pledged to protect the independence and honor of the parliament, emphasizing that leadership is a responsibility.

Yacob's academic background includes studying Sharia jurisprudence at the International Islamic University of Madinah in Saudi Arabia and obtaining a master's degree in public administration at the Cotabato City State University.

The parliament, which includes members of the Moro National Liberation Front, committed to support Yacob's peace and development agenda.
